BetMGM Sportsbook in Maryland

BetMGM Sportsbook Maryland has been a fixture at MGM National Harbor since sports betting first became possible in the state. Now, bettors can place their online BetMGM Sportsbook bets from anywhere in Maryland.

The Maryland State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency flipped the switch at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 23) for seven online sportsbooks — including the company known for its lion logo and Jamie Foxx ads.

MGM National Harbor’s President & COO Melonie Johnson called the online debut of BetMGM “monumental.”

“It allows us to expand our sports betting offerings and connect with guests beyond our resort’s walls. The BetMGM Sportsbook & Lounge is an incredible amenity, and the addition of the mobile app further enhances our customer experience.”

BetMGM launches its Maryland sportsbook app

To get ahead of the pack, BetMGM Maryland offers bonus bets for its new online customers. If your first bet of up to $1,000 doesn’t win, BetMGM Maryland will put the amount back into your account in the form of bonus bets.

BetMGM offers additional features that are worth a look as well:

  • Parlay generators for easy same-game or multi-game bets
  • An iRewards Points program, which includes resort perks at MGM venues in Las Vegas, New Jersey and Mississippi
  • Plus daily “Lion’s Boosts” and promotions.

BetMGM does well in a crowded field of sportsbooks

Wednesday’s debut will jumpstart the race for online market share in Maryland. Elsewhere, BetMGM Sportsbook does well as a US brand. Its success varies from state to state, though the company stays competitive overall with DraftKings, FanDuel and Caesars around the country.

BetMGM launched its retail sportsbook and lounge at MGM National Harbor in the Beltway city of Oxon Hill back in Nov. 2021. Upon doing so, it became the first company to open a retail sportsbook in the state.

Maryland will welcome seven online sportsbook launches on Wednesday. But state law leaves room for up to 60 online sportsbooks to debut.

Finding a footprint in Maryland sports betting

Fans can find Baltimore Ravens betting, Maryland Terrapins odds, and so much more at these sportsbooks. Maryland law permits wagering on college teams. That isn’t the case in neighboring Virginia, though.

BetMGM also has a  multi-year partnership at M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Ravens, so keep an eye out for special promotions when you sign up for an online account.

Bets became an option at 9 a.m. Wednesday, but users could register for the BetMGM Sportsbook before that. Bettors will need to verify their IDs and confirm they are 21 or older before wagering.

When you place a bet, you and your device must be located inside state lines. It’s your location that matters, not your address.

If out-of-state friends or family visit, they can also sign up for the BetMGM Sportsbook and make a bet while they’re in town.

What made BetMGM Sportsbook Maryland possible?

Gov. Larry Hogan signed Maryland sports betting into law in May 2021. Maryland regulators then approved 10 sportsbook apps during a Nov. 16 Sports Wagering Application Review Commission meeting — one of which was BetMGM.

The online BetMGM Sportsbook gave bettors an initial taste of its app during an eight-hour soft launch period on Monday. Maryland is now the 22nd state (plus Washington D.C.) to offer online sports betting since 2018.

BetMGM stepped up efforts in the region in January 2022, when it opened a retail sportsbook at Nationals Park in Washington DC. It was the first retail sportsbook connected to a Major League Baseball stadium at the time.

BetMGM was an early arrival in neighboring Virginia as well. The VA app went live in January 2021.

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said:

“The convenience of our best-in-class mobile app connects directly to the engaging atmosphere we’ve created in our retail sportsbooks at MGM National Harbor and Nationals Park.”
