This guide to FanDuel Maryland contains the information to get you ready to bet with one of the top sportsbooks in the US. We go over the types of wagers that are available, the ways you can fund your account and the process to download the FanDuel app and start betting. To start with, we’ll cover how to claim the risk-free bet.

After creating an account, all you have to do is make a deposit and then place a real money sports bet. If that bet loses, FanDuel will provide a refund in the amount of your loss up to a maximum of $1,000. The sportsbook issues the refund as site credit.
Not only can you bet with FanDuel’s site credit just like cash, but when you win you get both your stake and your winnings back in return. Many other Maryland sportsbooks issue welcome bonuses like free bets that will not be part of your return on a winning wager.
In addition, you can divide the site credit and bet with it how you please. You could place a single $1,000 bet or several smaller bets totaling $1,000. Just be sure to click the button in your bet slip indicating you want to use your site credit when wagering. It expires two weeks after FanDuel issues it.
We give the FanDuel welcome bonus a solid “A.” The only thing that could elevate it to “A+” status would be giving out refunds as cash, but site credit is the closest thing to that at online sportsbooks.
Yes, you can trust FanDuel Sportsbook in Maryland. FanDuel is among the largest sports betting sites in the US, with legal online sportsbooks in 10 states and daily fantasy sports in over 40, and those numbers continue to rise.
Note that FanDuel will not debut in Maryland until it receives a sports wagering license from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission. Additionally, the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission are still in the process of creating some of the rules and regulations that will govern sports betting in the state.
Two things we are pretty confident about are that the minimum betting age will be 21 and that bettors will be required to be in the state when submitting any bets, confirmed by geolocation technology if you are betting on a mobile device.
Sign up at FanDuel via the sportsbook’s website. The first thing you’ll do is select your state — Maryland isn’t available yet, but it will be as soon as FanDuel Sportsbook goes live there.
Then you have two options: If you already have a FanDuel Fantasy account, you’ll select that button. If not, you’ll fill out the sign-up form. You’ll need to enter the following info:
You also need to create a username and password. After that, you’ll be ready to start betting at FanDuel.
The FanDuel app is one of the top sports betting apps out there. It’s free for both Android and iOS and only takes a minute or two to download and install. Head to the FanDuel website’s app section and choose the option to download the sportsbook app that’s appropriate for your mobile device. Follow the prompts from there to complete the download and installation process.
FanDuel Sportsbook promos are available in a couple of spots. When you open the app or website, there is a banner near the top that you can cycle through that will show most of the current promotions. To make sure you don’t miss anything, though, you want to click on the promotions tab at the top of the page.
Once at the promotions page, you’ll want to opt in to any offers that interest you. All FanDuel promotions require you to opt in to claim them. To do so, click “More info” and then opt in on the following page. Once you’ve done so, a green “Accepted” box will show up in the photo associated with the promotion.
The majority of FanDuel’s promotions are insurance deals of some form. Here are a couple of common options you’ll see:
FanDuel’s Spread the Love promotion is one of the closest things to a free-money giveaway you’ll find at an online sportsbook in Maryland.
There are multiple reasons why FanDuel is a good option for placing sports bets in Maryland. Here are our three favorite features:
A relatively new addition to sports betting, same-game parlays can make for fun wagering, and FanDuel is among a small number of oddsmakers that offer them.
These parlays allow you to place spread, moneyline, over/under and prop bets all for one team in one game. These wagers are available only for NBA, NFL, MLB and soccer games at the moment, but that could change in the future.
FanDuel has a variety of great promotions, and one of the main reasons its offers are so strong is because you receive refunds in site credit. You can wager site credit just like cash, and when you win you receive the value of the site credit back, unlike how it works at many other sportsbooks.
If you’re a daily fantasy sports fan, that makes FanDuel an even better choice, as you can have one account for your sports betting and DFS needs. Win money in one and you can spend it on the other if you so choose.
There’s probably not a whole lot you won’t enjoy about FanDuel, but there are a couple of things that the sportsbook could stand to do better.
It’s surprising that FanDuel still does not have a loyalty program of any type. There’s no question that its promotions and overall odds are great, but adding rewards for loyal customers would be a tremendous addition.
While it’s pretty easy to create parlays for spread, moneyline and over/under wagers, it becomes tougher if you want to bet on player or team props. It would be great if you could click on a sport and just see player prop bets for that league. As it is, you have to drill down into each game and search for prop bets.
This is fairly minor, but it’s still worth mentioning. If FanDuel has a promotion that you’d like to use, you always need to opt in to it. This only takes a few seconds, but the real problem is if you forget and miss out on the benefits.
FanDuel sports betting offers a variety of potential wagers. You can bet against the spread, build complex parlay and round robin bets and even wager on games while they happen. Here’s a game listing to help explain the most common and popular bets:
|Detroit Tigers||+1.5 (-145)||+140||Over 9 (-115)|
|Baltimore Orioles||-1.5 (+126)||-166||Under 9 (-105)|
For a run line bet — baseball’s version of the point spread that you’ll see for basketball and football — the team you bet on has to cover the spread. That means different things for favorites and underdogs. In this example, the Orioles are the favorite. To cover, they have to win by more than 1.5 runs, so two runs or more. As the underdog, the Tigers can cover either by losing by a single run or winning the game outright. The odds appear in parentheses, and we’ll explain how they work below.
The moneyline odds are on each team to win. The larger the negative number, the more a team is favored. The larger the positive number, meanwhile, the more of an underdog a team is.
American odds are based on $100. For Baltimore, -166 means you must wager $166 to win $100 on a successful bet. For Detroit, +140 means a $100 bet would win you $140 in return. It works the same way for the odds listed for the run line and total.
Totals bets, also known as over/unders, are wagers on the number of runs the two teams will combine to score in the game. For the example above, an over bet would be a wager that the teams will score more than nine runs total. An under bet would be a wager on fewer than nine runs.
Often sportsbooks will have totals bets end in .5 to prevent ties, but not always. In our example, if the teams combine for exactly nine runs, all totals bets will push. When a bet pushes, you will receive your money back and it won’t count as part of a parlay or other multi-bet.
Prop bets are basically side bets. In an MLB game, for example, you could place bets on a player to get three or more hits, or for a pitcher to have a certain number of strikeouts. You also can bet on team accomplishments and game situations, like which team will score first or will the game go to extra innings.
To build a parlay at FanDuel, you need to select at least two bets. Then, in your bet slip, you will see options for placing single wagers and at the bottom an option for placing a parlay.
You also can create teasers and round robins at FanDuel. You’ll start the same way by adding bets. Then if a teaser or round robin is available for your picks, those choices will appear below the parlay option. Just click on the selection you want.
To see potential futures bets at FanDuel, just click on the sport you’re interested in and then choose “Futures” from the top. Sometimes just outright winners will be available, but for the more popular leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB), you’ll find division/conference winners and player futures, as well.
For live bets, you’ll see a tab labeled “Live Now” on the FanDuel app and website. It also has a number next to it that shows how many games you can bet on live at that exact moment.
For the most part, the bigger the game, the more live betting options you will have. Sometimes that means just spread, moneyline, and totals bets, while for other games you can bet on what will happen on the next play or pitch.
To quote Omar Little from The Wire, “Oh, indeed.” FanDuel provides myriad betting options when it comes to the Baltimore Ravens and the NFL as a whole. All of the bets we discussed above will be available, along with additional bets distinct to football.
There clearly are numerous betting options for all Ravens games. Even if you’re not an NFL fan, though, FanDuel has extensive betting markets for all the top pro and college sports leagues.
You have plenty of options for funding your FanDuel account. And even though you don’t have as many options for withdrawing money, they still are varied enough that one should work for you.

Also, if FanDuel opens a retail sportsbook in Maryland, you likely would be able to both deposit and cash out from that location.
Here’s what you can do if you experience any issues with FanDuel:
FanDuel allows you to set different betting limits as well as exclude yourself from the site entirely if you choose to go that route.
Start by heading to the responsible gambling page, which is located under your account. From there, you can set up deposit and wagering limits. You also can restrict the amount of time that you can spend on the FanDuel sportsbook each day.
You also can shut down your account. You can either take a temporary timeout for a period of your choosing or close your account for either one, three or five years. Keep in mind that this ban is for all states where FanDuel operates, not just Maryland.
To learn even more about safe betting habits, you can check out our Maryland responsible gambling page.
There is no word yet on whether FanDuel will open a retail sportsbook in Maryland.
There is a chance, though, that retail sports betting could launch before mobile sports betting in the state, and if FanDuel announces any plans we will update this section.
It is our belief that FanDuel is clearly one of the top online sportsbooks in Maryland.
There is quite a bit that goes into being a quality oddsmaker, and FanDuel checks pretty much all the boxes. There’s the great app and website, variety of betting markets, quality odds, and top-notch promotions. Add in the fact that you can place same-game parlays, and FanDuel has a lot going for it.
If you’re considering signing up with just one sportsbook in Maryland, FanDuel should be on a very short list of ones you’re considering. And if you plan on having multiple sportsbook accounts, there is no reason not to consider FanDuel.
