Live! Casino And Hotel: Gaming And Sports Betting Overview

Sitting between Washington DC and Baltimore, Live! Casino and Hotel draws from both metropolitan areas. Accordingly, Live is the second-busiest casino in the state, trailing only MGM National Harbor.

The property first Live! branded casino from The Cordish Companies. The group has expanded to offer Live! casinos in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh as well. In addition to casinos, Cordish also puts together large entertainment areas like Texas Live! and Xfinity Live!

Accordingly, Live! Casino and Hotel in Maryland is surrounded by things to do like a movie theater, restaurants, bars, and shopping. Within the casino, there is also a ton of options for entertainment. In addition to a giant gaming floor of slots and table games, the casino also boasts the largest poker room in the state with 50 tables.

Live! is also going ahead and preparing for the launch of sports betting. On April 29, the casino opened Maryland Sport & Social, which is essentially a sportsbook without a betting counter. Expect a betting counter to be added soon though. During the grand opening, Live! announced FanDuel will operate the retail sportsbook once it receives approval from the lottery to do so.

Live! Hotel & Casino sports betting plans

The Cordish Company brand is not new to sports betting in the US. The company’s Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia launched a retail sportsbook in January 2020 through a deal with FanDuel.

What is interesting about the deal is that FanDuel was already online and operational long before Live! opened its doors. The FanDuel Pennsylvania betting app launched in July 2019 through a deal with Valley Forge Casino. In other words, while FanDuel and Live! Hotel & Casino are partnered in Pennsylvania, FanDuel’s primary partner in the state is Boyd Gaming. The Boyd deal is actually a national partnership, but there are no Boyd properties in Maryland.

The casino recently debuted its de facto sportsbook, Maryland Sport & Social. As part of the grand opening, Live! revealed that FanDuel will run the retail sportsbook, pending regulatory approval. What wasn’t mentioned is an online betting component, so it seems like it is purely a retail sports betting relationship, at least for now.

Given the absence of Boyd, it is certainly possible Live! Hotel & Casino could work with FanDuel using the casino’s Class A-1 license. That license would cost $2 million upfront with a $500,000 renewal fee every five years. It is certainly a possibility that FanDuel will work with them, but they are not the brand’s only option.

FanDuel already works with the NFL’s Washington Football Team in Virginia as the team’s official licensed sportsbook. More than just a sponsor, FanDuel actually uses the license in Virginia allocated to the football team to operate.

However, there is a secondary brand under FanDuel’s parent company, Flutter Entertainment. FOX Bet is a brand that exists in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Colorado, and Michigan. With seemingly endless possible operators, it would make sense that FOX Bet comes into Maryland in addition to FanDuel. It would also make sense that they potentially do so through Live!

Finally, this may be a reach, but Cordish and Bally’s (formerly TwinRiver) did recently partner on a proposed Richmond, VA casino. The Richmond City Council vetoed the Bally’s proposal, but the project does suggest the two brands are willing to work together in the DMV sports betting marketplace.

The WFT has a similar opportunity in Maryland, so it would make sense for FanDuel to extend the partnership there. If so, Live! could still recruit another quality partner. For example, PointsBet would need a pathway into Maryland. Other possibilities are BetRivers, Circa, and TheScore.

Live! Casino and Hotel gaming

Live! is a property that is basically a full-service casino. Whatever form of gambling is legal in Maryland, Live! Hotel and Casino has it. Let’s run down what you will find on its gaming floor:

Live! Casino slots games

Live Casino has the largest selection of casino slots in Maryland with nearly 4,000 machines. The most notable has to be one of the slots boasting a $1 million jackpot, with substantial Giant Jackpots and Junior Jackpots as well.

The stakes of the machines range from a penny a pull to the high stakes. In addition to offering a wide range of stakes, there are plenty of notable titles and fan favorites like:

  • Blazing 7s
  • Buffalo Diamond
  • Double Diamond
  • Fortune Coin
  • Game of Thrones
  • Lightning Cash
  • Wheel of Fortune

Since smoking is not allowed in any casino, the options for smokers who want to play can be limited. Live! Casino and Hotel is one of the MD properties that features an outdoor gaming patio with machines where smoking is permitted.

Live! Casino table games

The table games at Live cover all of the bases with Roulette, Craps, and Blackjack, but there are a ton of options beyond that. Even the classic games have a little variety. You can play at a standard table or use one with a real dealer and an electronic table that can speed up the action.

If you are a jackpot hunter at the slots table, you might want to try out STAX Super 4 Progressive Blackjack. This $5 bonus bet has five different progressive jackpots attached to it.

Live! Casino and Hotel poker room

Thanks to a deal with the World Poker Tour, the notoriety of Live! Casino’s poker room extends beyond Maryland. The 50-table room regularly hosts WPT events that draw some of the biggest names in the poker world.

When there aren’t tournaments running, there are always numerous cash tables open with both hold’em and Omaha games. Mixed games and stud games occasionally run too. There are often promotions like high-hand jackpots.

The hotel offers several packages that combine casino credit, spa packages, hotel stays, and more for an entire vacation experience. Special rates are available for senior citizens and veterans.

Concert set-ups ranged from dinner theaters to general seating. Accordingly, the capacity of the venue rabes from 1,800-4,400 people.

Live! Casino and Hotel history

Live! Casino opened in several phases. The first opening was in June, then an additional phase opened in September. Then, in April 2013, the casino added over a hundred more table games ables. The poker room followed in August 2013.

Really though, Live! still expands even today. The hotel opened in 2018 and the property debuted a concert hall at the end of 2019.
