Memorial Day weekend events at Maryland Casinos

Memorial Day is just around the corner and many bettors and casino-goers will be looking for ways to spend the long weekend.

That begs the question. Are any of the casinos in the state of Maryland offering any promotions to visitors who come to use their facilities to celebrate Memorial Day?

There are six casinos currently in operation around Maryland in different parts of the state. While not all six of them will be hosting events during the weekend, half of them will be.

So, if someone is planning a trip, what deals are available? Which casino would be best? Is there anything fun going on for Memorial Day?

Live!, Hollywood and Ocean Downs hosting Memorial Day weekend events

Only three of the six casinos in Maryland are advertising Memorial Day promotions or events.

Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover is offering a Memorial Day offer for anyone who books their Best Rate stay in May. Once booked, they will receive a $25 dining credit to use.

Hollywood Casino in Perryville also will have something to celebrate the holiday weekend, but I would not call it a promotion or an offer. Instead, Hollywood Casino is hosting the 2023 Barstool Sportsbook Slider Challenge for competitive eaters. This is how it is explained on the casino’s website:

“Cheer on our competitive eaters as they try to eat as many sliders possible in 5 minutes! The top 3 contestants who eat the most sliders win a commemorative plaque, cash prizes, bragging rights, and more!”

The winner gets $500 in cash and a Solostove Portable Backyard Fire Pit. Second place receives $250 in cash, a Cuisinart Grill Tool Set, and a trunk organizer with a cooler. Third place gets $100 in cash and the car trunk organizer with a cooler.

The last event for Memorial Day is at Ocean Downs and it will be a Memorial Day Cornhole Tournament which has free admission. No more than 64 teams and no less than eight teams can participate, and the winners will win a share of the $1,000 cash prize.

What are Maryland casinos offering during the holiday weekend?

If you want to go to a casino or wager on sports to celebrate Memorial Day in Maryland, there are more than a few options.

Right now, there are six casinos in which people in the state of Maryland can place wagers of some kind. Four of them feature poker and other table games and some, such as racetracks, focus more around sports betting.

Hollywood Casino in Perryville is a great spot for someone who wants access to all sorts of methods of wagering with table games, like roulette, blackjack and more. There’s also a retail sportsbook where bettors can wager from in person or via mobile sports betting apps. There is no hotel, though.

Horseshoe Baltimore Casino and Caesars Sportsbook is best for those in Baltimore. While it does not have a hotel, it does feature online and in-person sports betting to go with more than 2,000 slot machine games and 150 table games.

Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover is arguably the best destination casino in the state. It has both online sports wagering and a retail sportsbook to go with a plethora of slot machine games, poker tables, and other table games. Plus, there is a 310-room hotel as well for those looking to make a weekend out of it.

MGM National Harbor is the other contender for best destination casino in Maryland. With a 300-room hotel connected to their 125,000-square foot gaming floor, this complex is huge and features a retail sportsbook and 200 table games.

Ocean Downs Casino, Racebook, and Sportsbook is the home of the Ocean Downs Racetrack which has been in operation since 1949, but since 2011 it has also become a casino. Now, Ocean Downs has 18 table games, over 800 slot machines, a retail sportsbook and a racebook to use.

Lastly, and the smallest of the six places to place wagers in Maryland, is Rocky Gap Casino Resort. Despite being the smallest of the six, it still boasts a 200-room hotel, over 600 slot machines and 15 table games, but it does lack a sportsbook and online sports wagering.
