Maryland is starting the new year off with nonstop action in its poker rooms. Players will have the chance to jump into the Mid-Atlantic Poker Open, play some daily tournaments or even have a chance to win a seat in the 2024 WSOP Main Event.
There are more than $1 million in guarantees across the various poker rooms in January. How much of it will you pocket?
Poker has been legal in the state for 11 years. Maryland online poker for real money is still prohibited, though sweepstakes online poker is available to players looking to hone their skills.
Action begins soon after New Year’s Day at Maryland Live!
Maryland Live! Casino poker room will showcase $1 million in guarantees during their Mid-Atlantic Poker Open. The series will take place from Jan. 3-15 and includes 15 events to choose from.
The highlight of the series is the $500,000 guaranteed multi-day tournament. This Main Event will start Jan. 12 and costs $2,200 to buy in. From Jan 12-14, the multi-day flight event will include two starting flights. Day 2 will take place on Jan. 14 and will play down to a winner.
Other notable Mid-Atlantic Poker Open events include:
- Event 3 – $540 NLH Multi Day Flight: Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 4-7 ($250,000 guaranteed)
- Event 5 – $360 Mixed Omaha: Friday, Jan. 5 ($10,000 guaranteed)
- Event 9 – $360 NLH Seniors Championship: Monday, Jan. 8 ($20,000 guaranteed)
- Event 11 – $360 NLH Mystery Bounty: Tuesday, Jan. 9 ($50,000 guaranteed)
- Event 17 – $360 NLH Black Chip Bounty: Monday, Jan. 15 ($40,000 guaranteed)

Tournament features event just for the ladies
The Poker League of Nations, the world’s largest women’s poker organization, will host a $10,000 guaranteed ladies event during the Mid-Atlantic Poker event. The event is Jan. 7 and costs $260. The casino will be hosting satellite giveaways up to the event.
Win a 2024 WSOP Main Event seat at Horseshoe Baltimore
The Baltimore Horseshoe offers players a chance to get into the biggest tournament of the year. Each month, the Horseshoe hosts a one-day tournament that players can satellite into the World Series of Poker’s $10,000 Main Event in Las Vegas, Horseshoe Poker Manager Mario Tee told PlayMaryland.
“Our $260 Mega Satellites are by far our best and most popular tournament for our players. Winning a seat to the Main Event is awesome, and Horseshoe Baltimore is the place to do it. We plan on sending multiple players this year to represent us and hopefully win a bracelet.”
Winners of these events receive a $11,000 package that includes a Main Event seat and $1,000 traveling cash.

Perryville Hollywood hosts one-day tournaments
In January, Hollywood Casino in Perryville is the place to be for players looking for some affordable one-day tournaments. For a small buy-in, players can expect to see a few tables of action each week.
- $120 NLH Deepstack: 7 p.m. every Tuesday
- $120 NLH Green Chip Bounty: 7 p.m. every Thursday
- $120 NLH Deepstack Tournament: 10 a.m. every Friday
- $150 NLH Megstacks: 11 a.m. every Sunday
MGM National Harbor hosts popular tournament in February
In December, the casino hosted a $200,000 guaranteed event. Two players are able to celebrate the holidays a little more comfortably this year. At the end of the event, Yaser Al-Keliddar and “GT” pocketed over $40,000 each.
