Betfred Sportsbook boosted its presence in the Old Line State on Thursday by becoming Maryland’s eighth online sports betting app.
Nearly two months after qualifying with state gambling regulations, Betfred Sportsbook launched its online gambling platform. The U.K.-based Betfred operates a retail sportsbook at Long Shot’s in Frederick.
Maryland bettors welcome eighth online sportsbook, Betfred
According to the Maryland Lottery & Gaming Control Agency, Betfred Sportsbook successfully completed a controlled demonstration of its earlier in the week, where customers placed live bets on the app. The MLGCC issued Betfred an online sports betting license afterward.
Betfred joins Barstool, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel and PointsBet as licensed online sportsbooks in Maryland.
During a lengthy public hearing last fall, Betfred was among 10 online sportsbook operators deemed qualified by state gaming regulators. The popular European bookmaker elected to sit out Maryland’s online sports betting debut on Nov. 23, 2022.
In just over two months, sports gamblers in MD have bet over $1 billion using online sportsbooks.
Backstory on Betfred
Betfred Group operates over 1,400 betting shops in the U.K., in addition to digital gaming products. Las Vegas-based Betfred Sports USA was created in 2019 “specifically to enter the robust and ever-expanding U.S. sports betting market,” the company said.
The same day Betfred Sports unveiled its first sportsbook in a Vegas casino, the company went live with its online app in MD.
In addition to MD and NV, Betfred Sports is a licensed operator in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, Virginia and Ohio.
