FanDuel Donates $1 Million To Maryland HBCUs

FanDuel Sportsbook has grown immeasurably over the years, emerging as one of the largest online sportsbooks in the nation.

Now, fresh off the launch of legal online sports betting in Maryland, FanDuel is giving back to the state that made it happen.

FanDuel donates $1 million to Maryland HBCUs

In total, FanDuel Sportsbook is donating $1 million to the United Negro College Fund to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Maryland.

FanDuel and the UNCF will work with each of Maryland’s four HBCUs to financially support students enrolled at those schools. Specifically, the donation will go towards providing funds for “technology, housing, food security, tuition, and other education-related expenses,” according to a FanDuel press release.

The four Historically Black Colleges and Universities receiving these benefits are:

  • Morgan State University
  • Coppin State University
  • Bowie State University
  • University of Maryland-Eastern Shore

In addition to the donation, FanDuel is incentivizing students from the four schools to further their education by offering an annual summer internship program at the brand’s headquarters in New York.

This is second $1M donation regional HBCUs

This is FanDuel’s second donation of its kind to the region. The first time came back in Feb. 2021 when FanDuel donated $1 million to Virginia’s five HBCUs. Part of that donation also went to providing critical emergency support to students during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Washington Commanders players were also included in this first donation event.

Christian Genetski, President of FanDuel Group said:

“FanDuel is delighted to be able to legally offer our sportsbook platform here in Maryland. More importantly, we’re proud to partner with UNCF once again in support of Maryland’s HBCU community. Our goal is that these funds help make a difference in the lives of hard-working students while also creating a track for some to join us at FanDuel as part of our summer intern program.”

Live! Hotel & Casino hosts FanDuel donation celebration

FanDuel presented the check at the FanDuel Sportsbook in the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover. Former Washington Commanders wide receiver Santana Moss was at the ceremony along with executives from both the UNCF and FanDuel.

To show its appreciation to Maryland bettors, FanDuel will continue hosting special live events at its retail sportsbook throughout 2023.

Most recently, FanDuel gave bettors an opportunity to score thousands in bonus bets during the World Cup by featuring the Robokeeper goalie promotion at its sportsbook.
