The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille is close to opening retail betPARX sportsbooks at two of its locations in the Canton neighborhood in Baltimore and in Towson, Maryland.
Sportsbooks at both locations are under construction and could debut by the beginning of NFL season.
The Greene Turtle to open two sportsbooks in Maryland
Founded in 1976, The Green Turtle has been the go-to spot for sports fans to gather and watch games while enjoying great food and drinks. Menu items feature everything from tacos to crab cakes.
And very soon, The Greene Turtle will add Maryland sports betting to that menu.
As of Feb. 15 the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) granted the Greene Turtle two retail licenses — to be operated by Finest Flag Gaming and powered by BetParx sportsbook.
Construction is currently underway on both locations, which will feature state-of-the-art audio technology and tickers to give bettors real-time scores and stats while enjoying the game.
BetPARX, Greene Turtle to undergo controlled demo
Aside from renovations, just one step remains. The sportsbook must undergo a controlled demonstration to ensure that it’s operating according to Maryland regulations.
Geo Concepcion, CEO of The Greene Turtle. said:
“We’re super excited to partner with Finest Flag Gaming and betParx, to take our guest experience to the next level. We’ve been watching the incredible developments in gaming for a while, and we couldn’t be more pumped to offer a sportsbook experience that we know will resonate with our guests.”
BetParx is also licensed for an online sportsbook in Maryland, though acquisition inquiries have delayed launch, leaving the brand’s debut date in the state currently unknown.
More Maryland sportsbooks look to launch
The Greene Turtle is one of several locations to receive initial license approval for a Maryland retail sportsbook this year.
Kathe P. Hospitality Services is a woman-owned catering company that also received pre-approval to become a sports betting facility in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
SuperBook Sports recently gained license approval for its retail and online sportsbook. The brand partnered with the Baltimore Orioles in 2021 and intends to debut an in-person sportsbook at Camden Yards sometime this year.
Crab Sports also received license approval recently and plans to debut a sportsbook app in partnership with Gaming Innovation Group.
Each of these operators must conduct final controlled demonstrations before being officially awarded a Maryland sports betting license.
Waiting for more launches throughout Maryland
Sports betting might still be fresh in Maryland, but that hasn’t stopped some heavy hitters from opening up shop on the online side. In addition to betPARX, Crab, and SuperBook, WynnBET and Bally Bet have also received app licensing.
There are currently eight online sports wagering apps available to Maryland. By the end of 2023, that number could very well be triple that.
Maryland’s online sportsbooks currently include:
